Many of us ask ourselves the following questions: At what age will my children be able to dress themselves independently? And how can dressing become part of our daily routine without a struggle?
Of course, there are differences among children, but by the age of six, they will likely learn to dress themselves independently. Moreover, by then, it will already become an integral part of the daily routine, as they have been dressing themselves since birth, with only the level of support varying over time. Since dressing is a regular activity, we tend to perceive it as easy, overlooking the fact that it requires numerous complex skills. These include fine motor skills, a wide range of motion, good coordination, adequate working memory, the ability to follow sequences, spatial awareness, body awareness, and surprisingly, even language skills play a role. For adults, it may seem simple, but for our children, learning how to dress is a lengthy and time-consuming process, involving complex knowledge influenced by various circumstances.
