Making the bed – Why and How?

    Parent: "Please make your bed after you wake up!"

    Child: "Why should I, if I'm just going to mess it up again in the evening?"

    Parent: "???"

    But really, why?

    Children visibly don't understand or simply aren't interested in the pleasant feeling of slipping into a well-made bed in the evening. Meanwhile, there may be some truth in the notion that tidying up our beds purely for the feeling might seem excessive. Nevertheless, there are a few reasons why making your bed in the morning is particularly advantageous:

    • Creates a pleasant atmosphere - A made bed enhances the overall appearance of the room, and it's not just about aesthetics; tidiness facilitates the execution of the evening routine as well.
    • Forms a habit that can stay with them for life - This step is not only about making the bed but more so about establishing healthy habits early on.
    • Boosts confidence and independence - Children understand that the result depends on them, making them the agents of change.
    • Helps start the day off on the right foot - As the day begins, so sets the tone for the rest of it.
